Robin Appel Ltd was built around EU pulse markets of the 1980’s when the company was a principal player shipping cargoes every week of both English grown peas and beans to satisfy the voracious appetite of the Benelux countries. A change in EU policy put an end to all this, but now the value of pulses to the farmer has opened an opportunity for the company to regenerate a trade in which it has always excelled.

“UK farmers are failing to meet the market demand for field beans, which includes up to 600,000 tonnes at a premium for export. Our ‘maritime’ produce is widely regarded as superior to alternative supplies from France and Australia, and so fits very neatly with farmers desire to combat the energy costs of other combinable crops.”
