GLYMPTON FARMS LTD WIN 2008 SPRING MALTING BARLEY COMPETITION

Glympton Farms Ltd has won the Syngenta Crop Protection Ltd & Robin Appel Ltd Spring Malting Barley Competition and are now awaiting the delivery of their prize - beer made from the winning barley. 2008 harvest is the first year Syngenta and Robin Appel Ltd have run the competition on this scale. Not the most auspicious year to begin a malting barley competition with harvest conditions being horrendous but despite this the quality of samples received was very high. Having narrowed the samples down to a final three, the judges were unanimous in their concluding decision.

The second & third places, with barleys also of excellent quality, went to RWR & P Read of Cocum Farm, Winchester and West Marden Farms, Chichester respectively. They will each receive a selection of local beers. Ben Wilson, Manager of Glympton Farms Ltd, Woodstock has only recently taken on his management role and managed to produce a superb sample of Tipple (his Quench was also highly placed). After working closely with Ben over the process of designing a beer style, name (Glympton Glory), labels etc and getting a load of his Tipple malted at Warminster Maltings Ltd, we are awaiting the imminent delivery of the beer from Freedom Brewery in Abbots Bromley. We will be unveiling the beer at Warminster Maltings on the 18th June.
