Linseed: Introduction

Robin Appel Ltd has been a linseed enthusiast for more than 20 years, over this time marketing more linseed than any other organisation in Europe. Through its annual contract production, year on year, handles about 25% of the total UK crop. Much of this goes for export, to markets which we have developed over two decades of supply.

“Linseed acreages in the UK have been at the lower end of the spectrum in recent years, and prices have responded accordingly. The differentials between osr and linseed are at historic highs. This makes linseed a strong contender for break crop acreage this spring. Demand for the seed is strong as the health benefits of Omega 3 oils (of which linseed has the highest concentration) are now universally accepted. The UK is the biggest producer of linseed within the EU, and its production is the preferred choice of many markets in Europe due to its ideal maritime growing conditions, and its close proximity to demand and increasingly the lack of GMO contamination in UK material.”
