Beyond Organic: Introduction

Robin Appel entered the Organic market in 2002 in order to source Organic malting barley for his new acquisition, Warminster Maltings Ltd. The opportunity to develop a complete portfolio of Organic grain trading quickly became apparent and today the company has become the foremost supplier of Organic milling wheat, milling oats and malting barley. We supply all the UK processors and are developing an exciting new export opportunity.

The 'credit crunch' has had a serious impact on the Organic market, in some cases reducing demand by as much as 50%. A succession of London based conferences last Autumn were firmly of the view that this had been an over reaction but accepted rebuilding markets was going to be a challenge. All sectors have been affected, and the first indications of recovering demand within the grain market are coming from 'bakery' where the goal of the 100% English Organic loaf could be the benchmark for wider spread activity.
